This post comes to you from a lazy Sunday, still in pyjamas into the afternoon, savouring the weekend before a case of the Mondays kicks in.
I've dipped in and out of monthly favourite posts through my years of blogging but I'm hoping this month at a glance will be something I settle into. No longer just about the products, but a month in review instead - essentially a diarized summary for you to catch-up with 12 times a year. Let's see how January panned out...
I've been cracking through Jamie's 15 Minutes Meals this month, providing that after work easy-cook without being just a simple pasta sauce, again.
Comptoir opened its doors to Leeds recently, a seriously tasty Lebanese restaurant that lived up to my London-visit memories. It's stashed under Everyman in Leeds and you'll feel like you've stumbled into a souk with all the trinkets on display. We opted for a sharing platter with a couple of sides - so tasty. I'll be heading back soon, even if the service was a little lacking.
Comptoir has come to Leeds, one of my favourite restaurants 😋 . . . #leeds #leedstagram #topdown #widn #saturday #lunching #tablesituation #foodstagram #foodie #foodlover #instafood #grub #justeatit #justshootit #pod #photoaday #tabletop #igersleeds #instagrub #darlingweekend #lebanese #comptoir #foodofleeds #vscocam #vscofood
I saw the penultimate showing of Strictly Ballroom in Leeds this month. My, it was dreamy. So much colour, so much camp and on the top of my I-wish-I-was-a-dancer spectrum. The production has prompted me to download several terribly camp 80s dance films, so excited.
I've collected business cards for years, deliberating how to display the damn things. This month I finally put use to their pretty, now displayed above my bed. From Leeds to Langkawi, Malaysia - a little piece of my global travels.
My biggest love of this month has been reading. I'm into my sixth book of January and not feeling the guilt of "I could be doing something more productive" whilst I get lost in the pages. The reason? I've turned the TV off and settled into read instead. Aimlessly flicking through Sky took up a lot of my evenings without anything accomplished, with the TV off, I've got back to my passion of writing again.
Highlight reads this month:
Heads in Beds - Jacob Tomsky
An all-access look into the hotelier lifestyle. You'll get travel advice on how not to be a dick to hotel staff, as well as some easy tips on how to win at hotelling. These, as well as getting a real look at what hotel staff actually put up with - the good and the bad.
A Little Princess - Frances Hodgson Burnett
I'm only a few chapters in, but this is shaping up to be one of my favourite reads. The story-telling is enchanting and it (of course) surpasses the film adaption and then some.
Failed It! - Erik Kessels
My level of self-help book. In very brief (although it's a seriously quick read), it's qualifying how failure and mistakes ultimately lead to creativity. One of many of a similar vibe that I'm working through.
Urban Decay's Backtalk lipstick has been the one this month - the Vintage Vice collection wears like a dream from them. This and Bruise are my forever favourites.
And of course, I have to shout-out to the newbie in my bag collection. It's an end-of-the-month buy and I'm obsessed. Primark x Disney has brightened my month up a treat.
I have of course still switched on for the essentials this month, namely...
Not the best season in my opinion, but a must watch anyway. Although that final episode opening had me questioning whether I'd tuned into the right show - I didn't sign up for the British 'Saw' remake.
Mariah's World & LA Clippers Dance Squad
Yep, I'm that girl. I now have a Hayu subscription, so endless amounts of crap TV fill voids inbetween books. Two of my brand new watches and faves from January.
Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Now on Netflix and I'm reliving from the beginning. A much deserved, highly hyped show, all the LOLs.
Keep your eyes peeled for my online finds this month - some must reads coming your way - and drop any of your reading, watching or eating recommendations to fill my February below!
