Cocktails in the City Leeds

Written about Bars
12th March 2017

The ever expanding streets of Leeds city centre have become their own worst enemy. You'll get two must-try new spots ticked off your extensive list, for another five to pop-up. It's no secret that Leeds is growing by the day; in food, in drink and in experiences. Your best bet in a bid to get round the best spots in the city is to head to an event encompassing all of them in some way.

Enter, Cocktails in the City.

Leeds Town Hall will be overrun with cocktail fans, foodie pop-ups and some one-off experiences over the 6th & 7th of April, the perfect time for you to experience the best bars in Leeds. If you're still after a little adventure, then there'll be events in a few spots around the city on the same nights to further expand the event.

I was taken on a cocktail scavenger hunt last week to get a preview of a couple of the offerings on the night. A few that you have to try out;

Aperitivo by Pintura

A food and drink pairing to end all others. The tapas and small plate gods that are Pintura will be serving up a delicious small plate/charcuterie experience paired with cocktails. We opened our night with a dreamy sweet vermouth and sherry mix before moving onto a pure sherry sipper. The food is of course the star of the show as we can attest to from diving into some nibbly sharing boards of the best cheese and meat selection.

Coffee & cocktails with 200 Degrees

One of the busiest openings to hit Leeds in a while, the newest coffee shop, 200 Degrees, will be dabbling in cocktails exclusively for the event. Their unique offering comes via a Cuba Libre with a coffee twist - it's one that will divide an audience I'm sure, the usual hit of cola and lime, before a subtle silkiness of their cold brew coffee. This amongst other cocktails with a stronger coffee kick are exclusive to CITC Leeds. Get tickets (as an addition to the main event) here.

Tonics & Treats in the Clock Tower

Not one we experienced on our preview due to the sheer exclusivity of this event. You'll be taken up the 200+ stairs to an exclusive dining area below the cocktail tower of Leeds Town Hall. Places are going to be extremely limited but it's one I'm dying to try out. Blind Tyger & Mr Ableforth will be hosting you for some gin based genius, in an unmissable spot. Tickets on sale soon.

These are my picks, but there is a ton more going on over the two nights, the CITC site has all you'll need to know. And of course, if you're just there to work your way around some of the headline cocktailers of Leeds, head to the main event, you won't be disappointed. Go get your tickets!
