It can't just be me that gets into work and is already planning what to have for lunch before 10am hits. My 9-5 is based in the Leeds West End, so I have a fair few options on my doorstep come 12 o'clock. The newest venue vying for the 9-5er's attention is Hive.
Taking the time to sit in, we were welcomed by dreamy interiors and details in every corner, catching your eye as you walk to the counter. Hive offer service to sit in, or pre-prepared options of their main menu to take out, nailing that fast service necessity on a tight lunch hour.
Whilst there are some healthy options nearby, Hive's entire menu is focused on nutritional food with flavour. Whenever that style of tagline comes with a restaurant, my first thought it always that it might be tasty in the moment, but my stomach will be rumbling within a couple of hours.
Somehow, Hive have skipped this and although I got a snack to fulfil me later in the afternoon, it went unopened and I was left full until the evening after a hearty serving.
The Hive Pots are what I'll be heading back for - I opted for the Tuscan Bean hive pot, a dish that will be perfect come winter time. A hearty tomato flavoured base, packed with kale, fresh vegetables and pulses. I've since tried the cajun spiced beef pot which I highly recommend, so deliciously moreish.
The other half opted for their salad selection - the great thing with these being that you can mix them if you're eating in and you're getting a great portion size. So you get your healthy ticked off, but you're not bored by the end of your bowl. Half teriyaki beef, half salmon and mango - that salmon offering is seriously fresh, mixed with white rice to ensure you're fulfilled. The teriyaki serve was coated in a delicious glaze that encased the rice, easy eating packed with flavour.
I'm yet to try their soups or wraps (which, FYI, you can get your Hive pot wrapped into), but I'll undoubtedly be back to try these. They're open for breakfast, lunch and into the evening, fully licensed to cap off your day - plus, breakfast burritos? Yes please.
I had A+ service on both my visits so it's no surprise to see it so busy each time I've been in. You'll find Hive opposite the Wellington Place development edging the city centre. It's almost certainly going to become a lunchtime staple for me, here's hoping the sun makes an appearance again to take advantage of their patio. Let me know if you go!
