Don't recognise the name? That's because there's a new bar in residency on Lower Briggate. A new bar in an old surrounding... that's had a face lift. The Hedonist Project has rejuvenated its location for the summer, welcoming gin to the mix and leaving Liquor & Whisky behind.

The place has had a fresh face lift, perfect for summer, with nods to its previous guises dotted around the room. A fresh and airy look for the summer, complete with a couple of window seat booths for the ideal people watching spot.

On the menu, a plethora of gin options to choose from, including their own concoction of a smooth lemon gin, providing the base to a few of the cocktails on the menu.

I've been down a few times now dince it's month of residency, gradually working my way through the cocktail menu. One visit also included a blogger taster event where we had the pleasure of working through some of the food on offer.

Old Tom's is open for food straight from breakfast, through lunch and onto dinner. The majority of the menu is created entirely in-house, including the large batch made granola bar we had a taster of. The rest is sourced locally where possible.

My personal favourites - for the cocktails would have to be either a classic G&T (you've got a few on offer. A Tanqueray Ten would always be my favourite for a smooth drink) or the Roasted Barley Bramble (for something seriously sweet. And with a side of jam - eat this first). I still have a few more to work through though...

And for the food you have to try the Courgette & Aubergine Melanzane. Not something I'd normally go for, but it's a vegetarian dish that's winning.

I tried the lemon drizzle cake at the blogger taster night, the cake was good but I wasn't keen on the milk sauce it was served with. An almost smoky taste that ruined the sweet flavour for me.

If and when the Great British Summer stops playing nice, aim for a window seat and work through the cocktails over the next couple of months. Old Tom's is here until 25th June, when The Hedonist Project will rip out this front and launch something brand new.

Want to know some Hedonist Project history? Have a peek at the Rum Shack and Liquor & Whisky; two of their former guises.
